Christmas at Kew
I jumped at the opportunity of a housesit in Kew, next door to the Royal Botanic Gardens, and immediately purchased a ticket for the Christmas at Kew light display.
Visitors follow a 3-kilometre trail. Some of the displays are simple while others are much more elaborate.
The most spectacular were on and over large pools of water.
The music was chosen to complement the displays. Silent Night in the Fire Garden created a very contemplative mood, while Rockin’ Robin kept everyone on their toes.
Santa Claus welcomed everyone to the area with rides for children, and there were lots of food and drink vendors – hence my dirty nose after mulled wine and waffle bites with chocolate sauce.
There were signs letting us know that lights had been positioned and precautions taken so that birds, bats, and wildlife wouldn’t be disturbed. Lighting wasn’t continuous along the trails. Any generators in use were powered by biofuel, and 75% of the lighting is LED. All the vendors offered vegan and vegetarian options, and cups and plates were all compostable.
