Arundel, West Sussex
Arundel is a small hillside market town whose skyline is dominated by Arundel Cathedral and Castle.
Its old buildings are well maintained, and it has plenty of independent stores and restaurants to attract visitors, including me making a return visit 4 years after my first.
Arundel’s train station is a kilometre out of town. But never fear! This is England so there is a safe cycling and pedestrian pathway into town with views over the town and surrounding countryside.
The castle is huge. Unfortunately, it’s never open when I visit in the winter.
I do, however, visit the 14th century Church of St. Anthony. There is such a strong sense of peace and timelessness in the cemetery with its crooked stones and old trees.
